The Cygnets

Here's a bit of a sad story

I live in a village in the middle of nowhere and it's tiny. However it has a dam (It's always been called that even though it's more of a pond really) where every year a pair of swans come and live with their babies once they hatch. This year we had a pair of swans and they had 4 cygnets and they spent all day in the dam.

However, the parents then disappeared and one of the cygnets, who had grown a bit since these pictures were taken, had been found dead in a burn (or a creek, but we call it a burn) near the dam. 

Since then several villagers have taken it upon themselves to look out for the remaining 3 cygnets who are about half of their adult size now and still live in the dam. Villagers give them bread and check on them everyday as these swans have been a part of our village for years now and it would be a shame if we lost them. 

Here were the swans and the cygnets back when they were only a few weeks old.
